The Holiday season is a great time of year. However, many people associate this time of year with expected weight gain because of all the treats and goodies being present at all times. Here at Greenspan Wellness Center, we want to help you enjoy the holiday season without regrets– including the regrets that might sabotage your weight loss goals. Here are a few to consider.
- Drink lots of water. It’s not uncommon for people to mistake thirst for hunger and overeat. If you are hydrated properly, it’s much easier to avoid overeating, since your stomach will already have volume and help you feel fuller.
- Watch what you’re eating. Parties are notorious for encouraging people to overeat, but with a little planning ahead, you can keep weight loss goals in check! Instead of taking a little bit of everything, choose healthier snacks like veggies, hummus (no high-calorie dips!), a small handful of unsalted nuts (without a candy coating), or even a few crackers. These are always better choices than processed foods like chips, seasoned popcorn, meatballs, creamy dips, high-fat cheeses, sweets and cookies.
- Watch where you are during the party. Mingle away from the buffet line, keep a bottle of water in your hand, and don’t be afraid to say “no, thanks” when someone is passing around food. If you are really craving a goodie, choose one small portion of your favorite thing and stop there.
- Keep on top of your health goals outside parties and get togethers. Eat healthy options, take your supplements and get your rest. To learn more about healthy options during the holidays or weight loss options, contact us at Greenspan Wellness Center today.
