The holiday season is a time full of treats, lights, gift-giving and, quite frankly, a lot of stress and overeating! If you’re looking to recoup from a busy holiday season, we thought we’d put together a list of suggestions to help you get back on track. Here at Greenspan Wellness Center, we understand that self-care is something that is really hard for many people, especially those who take the opportunity to make the holiday season a special time for their families. Practicing self-care is more important than ever when the dusts settles and the last visitor has left, and we want to offer some tips to guide you on your road for practicing self-care in your day-to-day routine. The good news is that it’s a great time of year to set new goals and intentions!

One of the best tips we can give you during this time of year is to watch your thoughts, as these impact your mood and your self-esteem. Avoid self-doubt and negative thinking, and try to avoid judging others or yourself too harshly – especially as you think about the recent holiday season. While we need to practice good judgement, there is no reason to hold yourself to unreachable standards and then beat yourself up!

Another great idea is to surround yourself with positive and like-minded people. Enjoy spending time with those who you feel you are your best self in their company, and avoid or strictly limit those who don’t bring out the best in you.

Finally, take time to slow down and focus on your physical needs. Stress is harmful to your body and to self-care. Practice meditating and/or breathwork to manage your stress. It can also be helpful to eat healthy, exercise and even use extra supplements during this time.
